PRODUCTION
Nearly all posters are now done with the computer
painted banners (skins). Hand paints on Supers are
now rare.
24s still have some paper style posters although
these are getting fewer.
06 are still mainly paper posters. Some hand paints
are used on smaller boards when taken by a local
client as a directional, eg to direct to a McDonald’s
Store.
However the cost of a banner is now very similar
to hand paint and the quality being full digital
reproduction is far better.
Two types of banner style are in use. The first
is produced by the MMT group and use an acrylic paint
onto a vinyl skin, similar to a swimming pool liner.
This is the best at present and will last for 5 to
10 years. The other is an ink-based method onto a
skin again but fading may occur after 6 to 12 months.
Inks have improved in recent years and with the
addition of UV coatings inks can be made to go up
to 2 years.
